Dogs love gingerbread and it’s not just for the holidays. Dogs enjoy eating gingerbread cookies year round. If you are in the mood to bake why not make a batch of these for your best friend.
1 cup molasses
4 tablespoons honey
1 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
6 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
2 tablespoons chopped fresh ginger or 1 teaspoon of dried powdered ginger
Heat your oven to 350 degrees. Stir together the honey, molasses, water and oil in a medium sized bowl. In another larger bowl combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves and ginger. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet and combine well. Divide the dough into four sections and roll each up into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4-5 hours.
After the dough is firm and well chilled you can put it onto a lightly floured surface and roll it out to a 1/4 inch thickness. Cut the dough into fun shapes like fire hydrants. Put the cookies on a parchment covered cookie sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes. The cookies should be lightly browned around the edges and firm.
